Crosbey Square ~ Bolton is an English Country Dance. It was published by Henry Playford (website) in 1701 in The Dancing Master, 11th ed.. It was interpreted by Charles Bolton (website) in 1997 and published in Retreads Vol.7. It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 20 bars.
Variously spelled: Crosbey-Square, Crosby Square, Crosby-Square, and Crossbey-Square.
The 1st. couple cast off and clap hands, then they are in second couples place; the second couple do the same; To the first Strain twice Then they draw the first couple into the second, and the second into the first's place, then right and left, then 1st couple cast off and turn so to the end of the Tune. Second Strain twice.
The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
