Donawert Pass

Donawert Pass is an English Country Dance. It was published by Playford (John Young) (website) in 1710 in The Dancing Master, Vol. the Second, London. It was interpreted by Charles Bolton (website) in 1992 and published in Retreads Vol.6. Originally proper this version is an indecent duple minor longways dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.

Playford writes:
The first Man Sett to his Woman, and then take Hands with the second Man and turn round into his own Place, the first and 2d Woman do the like at the same Time, then the first Couple cross over into the 2d Couples Place, then all Four take Hands and lead up abreast, the the first Man cross over and go below the 2d Man, while the first Woman goes below the 2d Woman, and clap Hands, then all Found Hands and go quite round, the other Couple do the same

Originally all were proper.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
