Mary K

Mary K is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Gary Roodman (website) in 2003 and published in A Finite Set of Calculated Figures. It is an improper duple minor longways dance. The minor set lasts 24 bars. It is in the key: E flat major. Someone thought this dance was Hard.

Petit fours is a version of Grand Square adapted to the longways set. The figure starts with couples progressed and in the center following a two hand turn.

The tune is adapted from Scherzo in C Minor composed by Dave Wiesler, and performed by MGM (Mary Lea, Gene Murrow and Margaret Ann Martin) & Reunion (Barbara Greenberg, Daniel Beerbohm and Jonathan Jensen) on the album New Friends.

The animation plays at 115 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), set, circle, cast, rights and lefts (and probably others).
