Earth Adored ~ Triple

Earth Adored ~ Triple Earth Adored

Earth Adored ~ Triple is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Joseph Pimentel (website) in 2018 and published in The Green Jay Collection. It is a proper Triple Minor dance. There is no progression in this dance. The dance lasts 32 bars. It is in the key: G major. Someone thought this dance was Intermediate.

In A9-12 Pimental uses a figure he calls a tandem set and link. It's not the same as a three couple set and link. It's more like a two person set and link with an additional third person (to the left of the other two) who moves in tandem with the person on the left. That is, the person on the right-most end of the line casts right ending in the leftmost position in its own line, while the other two turn inward each moving one place right. Everyone ends facing the same way they faced before, and not in lines across.

Pimentel designed this to be danced in a 3 couple set, but it can be danced in an unusual triple minor: In a normal triple minor the 2s and 3s change roles each time through the dance, here they (like the 1s) retain their roles until they reach the end. Also the 2s progress down the set, while the 3s zoom up (instead of not progressing at all).

This permutation has unfortunate end effects.

  1. If the number of couples in your set is divisible by six, then when there are two couples out at the top you must have them change places (and they do not change when there are two out at the bottom)
  2. If the number of couples in your set is equal to 1 mod 6 (7,13...) then you do not change when there are two couples out at top, nor at bottom. Equally you may change at both top and bottom.
  3. If the number of couples in your set is equal to 2 mod 6 (8,14...) then you change when there are two couples out at bottom but not at top.
  4. If the number of couples in your set is equal to 3 mod 6 (9,15...) then you do not change when there are two couples out at top, nor at bottom. Equally you may change at both top and bottom.
  5. If the number of couples in your set is equal to 4 mod 6 (10,16...) then you change when there are two couples out at bottom but not at top.
  6. If the number of couples in your set is equal to 5 mod 6 (11,17...) then you do not change when there are two couples out at top, nor at bottom. Equally you may change at both top and bottom.

In other words how you behave when you are out depends on how many couples were in the set when you started, which is unexpected. If you always have 2 mod 6 or 4 mod 6 couples in a set then behavior is similar to that in a normal triple minor dance so it might be best to stick with those lengths.

The tune, called Sagina, was composed by Thomas Campbell in 1825. It was performed by Goldcrest (Daron Douglas, Paul Oorts and Dave Wiesler) on the album the Green Jay Collection. The music is used with permission from the Joseph Pimentel and Goldcrest. The album may be purchased either at the CDSS online store or at Bandcamp.

The animation plays at 92 counts per minute. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), set, gypsy, circle, cast, lead, hands across, siding, cross go below, , (and probably others).
