Zorinsky ~ Longman

Zorinsky ~ Longman Zorinsky ~ Preston

Zorinsky ~ Longman is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Longman and Broderip in 1796 and published in Twenty-Four Country Dances for the Year 1796, London. It was interpreted by Jacqueline Schwab sometime before 2023-08-20. It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.

Longman and Broderip writes:

Sett & hands 4 round, the same back again, lead down the middle up again one Cou: Allemande.
My thoughts: looking at Preston's version of the dance (also from 1796):

Preston writes:

Sett & half right & left the same back again, lead down the middle up again cast off & Allemande.
Makes me wonder if the hands 4 round might not meant to be half (follwed by a fall back or balance the ring)

Preston also has the 1s leading back to the top and casting down rather than just leading up to 2nd place.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), set, circle, lead (and probably others).
