Promenade Progression

Promenade Progression is a progression pattern for 5 couples in a square set with one couple in the middle. It starts with all couples in promenade hold, all outer couples facing in, the the middle couple facing up. The progression can go either clockwise or counter-clockwise, the instructions below are for counter-clockwise.

The middle couple pass the top couple right, each taking the other's place, the middle couple end facing in, the top couple end in the middle facing the next couple counter-clockwise.

The process continues three more times.

History

The first example of this figure that I can find is in Wendy Crouch's Winter Solstice from 1988.
