Bentley Allemande

This figure is for two people, a man and a woman. Both start by walking forward to meet, then they take right hands, joined above the woman's head, and the man walks around the woman, they drop hands and both return to place.

History

I have always heard this called the "Bentley Allemande", and yet I know of no dance either written, or interpreted by Bernard Bentley which actually uses it. The earliest use of the name that I've found is in Tom Cook's interpretation of Trip to Castle Howard, from 1980 as found on Colin Hume's website.

This is a variant of the pirouette allemande.
