The Knot (Scottish)

Dancers usually start on the sidelines, and turn partner right half and end facing DOWN, in allemande hold. The bottom man pivots and he and his partner face the women's wall and dance out to it, as the other couples move down one place. The man again pivots to face up, and moves up to 1st position, as the following couple moves to the sidelines. The leading couple pivots a quarter, and the following one pivots half facing the men's wall (at the end of bar 5). Dropping right hands, the women move in front of the men, as the men move in. Then left turn half to end on their own sides.

History

According to a note in the Scottish Country Dance database the knot was devised by Mina Corson for the dance Miss Milligan's Strathspey

Originally it was for two couples, but Roy Goldring was using a three couple version by 1977 in the dance Cuillins of Skye.
