As waltzing did earlier, polkaing became part of the country dance repertoire of figures.

The earliest reference to polkaing in a country dance that I have found is Seaton's 1852 The Ball-Room Manual from the UK.

Elias Howe published 9 country dances which contain polkaing as one of their figures in The American Dancing Master, 1862.
