Bars: 4 or some multiple thereof.
The middle couple start facing their 1st corners and loop around them as the 1st corners come together and right hand turn and return to places. The middle couple pass right to face 2nd corners and loop around them as they turn. The middle couple pass right to finish in 2nd place on their own side.
Many dances have the corners turning with both hands.
Some dances have the right hand turn replaced by a right shoulder round.
The dance City Lights has a "Corners Pass and Allemande Turn", where the middle couple behaves normally but the corners meet and the man turns the lady under his arm, whereupon he backs, and she goes forward to original places.
The first dances I can find with this figure are The Black Black Oil and Tommy Ford's Fancy, both devised by Drewry in 1971. A note on the SCDDB says that Tommy Ford's Fancy, and The Misses Farrell of Alloa. But the Misses Farrell wasn't until 1977.
