Money Musk - Griffiths is an American Country Dance. It was published by John Griffiths in 1798 in The Gentleman & Lady's Companion. It was interpreted by George Williams in 2026. It is a proper Triple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.
The dance Money Musk has a long history, but this version seems completely unrelated to both Werner's and Preston's version which preceded it and to Saltator's and Hillgrove's versions which followed it, and to any modern version.
Griffiths writes:
Six hands half way round and back, first and second gentlemen balance together and turn round, the 1st and 2nd ladies do the same, down the middle, up again, cast off, right and left.
Now, does first and second gentlemen balance together and turn round mean that the 1s+2s take hands with their neighbors and balance, or that the 1s + 2s face their neighbors and balance? I tend to think that the together suggests they should take hands, but I might be wrong.
The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
