Perro

Perro is an English Country Dance. It was published by Walsh in 1731 in The Compleat Country Dancing-Master, Book 1, 2nd ed, London. It was interpreted by Andrew Shaw in 2017 and published in Elephants Stairs. Originally a Triple Minor this version is a proper 3 Couple Longways dance. In this dance the couples are permuted by: 312. The minor set lasts 24 bars.

Walsh writes:
The 1st Man figures round the 3d Man, the 1st Wo. at the same Time goes round the 2d Wo. on the inside The 1st Man goes round the 2d Wo. on the right Hand side, the 1st Wo. at the same Time goes round the 3d Man on the right Hand side; The 1st Man leads abreast with the 2d and 3d We. and foots it, 1st Wo doing the same at the same Time with the 2d and 3d Men, the 1st Man casts down, and the 1st Wo. cast up at the same Time Then the 1st Man leads abreast with the 3d Cu. and foots it, 1st Wo. does the same at the same Time with the 2d, 1st Cu. turn Hands in the 2d Cu. Place.

Originally a triple minor.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), set, turn single, turn single cloverleaf, cast, lead, siding (and probably others).
